USS Puritan

The only American ironclad in the Pacific

Built in the style of Union “monitors,” the Puritan rides low in the water. It has two massive turrets, one fore and one aft, each equipped with two 12 inch guns. The superstructure in between has the look of a steel fort, with smaller cannon poking out from firing ports on either side. A catwalk overhead allows officers to observe the battle and adjust firing angles.

The Puritan is captained by Alfred T. Mahan, a bald bookish man known for his terrible habit of crashing his ship into objects both moving and stationary. Everyone breathes a little easier when the Puritan stays at anchor in San Francisco harbor.
